Capital Visitor Center Delays

23 07 2007

Where oh where art thou new Capital Visitors center? In 1995, the cost projection was $100 million with it being ready in 1999. But the digging didn’t begin until 2002. By then, the cost had ballooned to $265 million, and the latest estimate is nearly $600 million, and the visitors center is still not done!

It is understandable that costs have risen as there have been increased demands for security, but it seems like congress has lost tabs on the situation, it’s not like they can’t monitor the progress! Look out your window congressmen!

U Street Builds New Dorms

20 07 2007

The Beauregard is going to be built 2 blocks from the U street metro and is being advertised as a stunning 6 story development, but the rendering below looks more like a whole lot oh mess. Beauregard, by the way, was a confederate general best known for his victory at the first Bull Run, so know you can see how appropiate it is for the U street area

So far the website lists the following amenities; Lobby, Two elevators, parking…. um what are they going to offer next? Windows! Doors!?!

I do like the couple holding hands with the backpacks in the picture though, makes it look even more like a college dorm is being built in the middle of U Street

Restaurant Three… Atleast Three Months Late

9 07 2007

Wondering what the new develpment on the corner of Garfield and Clarendon Blvd in place of the old (and short lived) tiki hut? Well the owners of Whitlows on Wilson are opening Restaurant Three which wil be a “upscale dining atmosphere with an affordable priced menu.”

Unfourtunatly those in Clarendon may be waiting for a while, the restaurant was slated to open in June, but things are now looking like late Fall.

Update: There is huge “Now Hiring” sign accross the front, things might be progressing faster than we think
