Christmas Tree Faceoff!
25 12 2007

Ok Washington, in the spirit of healthy holiday competition, whose Christmas tree did you like the best this year? The US Capital (left) or the White House (right)? And don’t let partisanship sway you! Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments.

Not even a contest, the Capital Building’s lights are wonderful while the White House’s are hard to even look at!
I’m with Steven. Not only this year but every year the Capital Tree always outshines ; ) the White House one. The Capital Tree always strikes me as being more authentic, lovely and real and majestic while the White House Tree always seems stifled (what’s with the netting?) and conspired. And the munchkin trees of all the states and territories around it make the whole affair seem overly busy and commercial.
The two in tandem, I will say, seem to capture the dichotomy of the US, though. So I guess there is some unintended message there.
the capitol, by far.
the white house lights are always trying to be pretentious, and always sorely lacking.
I like the little State trees by the White House one. Since so many people in DC are from other places, it is nice to see your “home” state represented.
I guess we could do without the big one maybe, or some different lights atleast
Actually, Sally does have a point about the state trees. The reality is I like them better than the large tree. At least you can see the little individual bubble items representing the state on them. And living here I don’t think about it as much, but as a visiting kid, I would have loved finding my home state tree.
But for comparing the big White House Tree with the Capitol Tree, I stand by my original comment. Capitol Tree, hands down.
