Starting Over on NY Ave
31 01 2008Can you imagine what this section of the 400th block of New York Ave would look like if the entire block was row homes like the one on the right? Unfortunately, this is all that’s left and this block the building on the left is slated for demolition. The building was a good try the first time, maybe starting over a new building on the block will get a little more traction!

Check out the details around the windows on the 4th floor, this building was clearly built at a time when things were looking up on the block. With the demolition of these old buildings the building on the left, maybe things will start to look up again! [FlickrPhoto:rockcreek]

I could be wrong, but I think the proposed development for this property (by Bozutto maybe?) includes saving, but moving to a different part of the property, the 4 story building in this photo.
Shaw Rez is correct. The taller, more ornate building will be saved but moved to the end of the block to make room for the new Bozutto development.
The smaller building however was not deemed historically significant and will be demolished.
It would be a crime to knock the 4 story bldg down, innit?
Oh absolutely that thing is amazing, I really like the 4th floor windows, maybe the new plans will call for repeating variations of the buildings style and making the street look as the people who built the original building back in the day envisioned, a row of beautiful homes!
the plans for this development are quite sad. a rather nondescript suburban looking tower with this beauty smacked onto the side of it. The sad part is that they’re just saving the facades…Maybe it’s gutted now…but maybe it’s not?!
Also, I checked out the proposal for the bozutto development. This building has NO amenities… what’s that about? It’s a fairly large building?!
hmmm….
