Destruction In Penn Quarter!

21 02 2008

Nothing like a nice bunch of demolition shots to start the day off! A few mechanical crushers is all it took to level this building located in the Penn Quarter at the intersection of G St and 10th NW.

As you can see, the lot is right next to the Martin Luther King Memorial Library, the main branch of the DC public library system. Hopefully the demo doesn’t get to loud!

More destruction after the jump, and since you might not remember what the building being taken down looked like, we have a nice aerial shot of it, pre-demo for you too…

The building was one of the last remaining low density areas of Penn Quarter, hopefully the new project won’t block the windows on the west side of MLK library. The kids need the sun to read!

More destruction!

I love the smell of napalm in the morning!

What’s going to be built here by the way?

Wasn’t that an old church or something? I think I remember seeing a cross on the corner at some point. Now if the MLK library would get a new building (or at the minimum a major face lift), that block will look pretty sweet.

It’s going to be and office building with a rebuilt church on the ground floor. I think it’s gonna be between 10 or 11 floors total.
