Here Comes Washington Gateway

22 02 2008

We just received these gorgeous renderings from a tipster at MPR Realty of the final designs for the Washington Gateway being planned on the corner of New York and Florida Avenues, Northeast. From what we’ve seen so far, it looks prety nice!

Located in DC’s NoMa neighborhood (which you know how we feel about), Washington Gateway is right next to the recently opened New York Avenue metro station on the Red Line. The great glass structures are brought to you by SK&I Architectural Design Group who is working on the residential building and hotel while Oculus is planning the plaza and streetscape design. Don’t you wish that designers would do more night time renderings? They look so cool!

Comprised of almost a million square feet of mixed-use development with a north and south office tower and a residential building, the site will serve as a “gateway” into DC from the NE. Most striking though will be the height of the building, which the developers some how got approved for over 40 feet taller than any other buildings in the area.

The NOMAbid website show’s the groundbreaking as Q3 of 2008 but the developer’s site states Q1 of 2008. Any idea which one is correct?

I live a few blocks for that and cannot wait for its completion. Its going to be a great catalyst for other development in the area. Hopefully the Florida Market will go the way of the wrecking ball and something new will go there. Its location on a hill overlooking the Capitol makes it prime real estate.

Save the Florida Market!

There are too many interesting things to let it die.

i live near the florida market.

i say ’screw it’.

redevelop it with an eye toward it’s (dubious) historical significance, and move forward.

i’m tired of the hippies and loser tweens trying to keep this city from moving forward.

i used to own a home in georgetown. i bought it in the nineties, when there was a roy rogers where restoration hardware now stands.

my wife (now ex-wife) was scared to walk around georgetown at night. there were several rapes and shootings at the time.

now look at the place!

anyone complaining now?

i don’t think so. georgetown is truly a destination.

why keep crappy warehouses, boxes of rotten fruit on the sidewalk, and prostitutes and drugdealers in business?

cuz it makes you cool and ‘with the people’?

blow me.

get rid of that crap and move forward, DC!

it’s about friggin’ time.

Ha, Ha. The hippies will win and save the old post office and the broken Union Market sign will remain forever.

Go back to Georgetown or Kansas doggie poo poo.

I’d rather have an Italian deli, yummy Mexican food, cheap kitchen supplies, Korean food, and wholesale food vendors than another stupid ATF style building.
