Rosslyn Building Face Lift

25 02 2008

In the next few years Rosslyn is going to be unrecognizable from what it is now! There are a ton of new buildings planned to transform the skyline, but also a number of projects that will give face lifts to current buildings. A tipster sent us these great hypothetical “before and after” renderings. By the way, if you want to be a tipster or have anything else to say, we love to hear from you dcmetrocentric@gmail.com!

This building is part of the complex directly over the Rosslyn Metro station and we have always disliked how the first 5 floors were exposed parking. The new plan calls for an increase in street facing retail as well as a much nicer exterior finish. This will go a long way for changing the feel of the area, which at times can feel like a concrete canyon.

The white building on the lower right was Tom Sarris’ Orleans House but is now empty and ready for the construction of Rosslyn Central place and an amazing central plaza. The restaurant is already missed and was an example of one of the things that gave the area a little character, some things need to fall by the way side for progress and development, but we wish they could have found a way to keep the building around!

The site is having some issues apparently, but have no fear things should be running smoothly again soon.

By the way, we already linked to some renderings of Rosslyn Central place in the post…

I use the Rosslyn station to take the bus home. I think the building is pretty successful integrating with the bus stops. An overhang is over the sidewalk so waiting passengers can stay orderly and dry, and when the wait for buses is extra long, people zip into the businesses to buy stuff; especially the bakery cafe.

We did mention in the third sentence of the post that we got the images from a tipster in our inbox.

We always try to follow up when we get tips lke this, but sometimes the individuals wish to remain anonymous.
