Clinton Campaign Construction in Georgetown Ruffles Feathers

6 03 2008

In a city like DC it’s often hard to stay away from Politics (we leave that to our friends over at Wonkette) but when the gossipy world of Politics collides with construction, architecture and real estate, of course we are all over it!

We have known for some time that top Clinton Campaign aid Mark Penn has been in the midst of a multi-million dollar renovation of his Georgetown home, however recently the work on an underground garage and addition has become a major annoyance the neighbors… and the’re starting to complain!

We would tend to say it’s not really that big a deal, after all in such a busy and ever changing area of town, it can’t be much worse that some of the other projects and renovations going on, they just don’t have such a high profile owner.

However the thing that does bug us is that all the work routinely shuts down the sidewalk (as you can see), which we all know isn’t really allowed in DC anymore! We are fine with all the million dollar mansions in Georgetown and their million dollar renovations, just as long as they don’t interfere with our afternoon strolls! According to tax records, prior to the renovations, the home on O Street NW was valued at $7.1 million.  [Photo: Andrew Harnik/Examiner ]
