Bob Peck, From Cars to Condos

12 03 2008

The old Bob Peck Chevrolet Dealership in Ballston has been closed for a while now, but it seems the lot will not sit vacant for much longer.

The Arlington County Board has approved a mixed-use project for the last unplanned redevelopment site in the Ballston Metro station area.

Located at Glebe Road and Wilson Boulevard, the project will include two office buildings, with more than 400,000 square feet of office space and 36,000 square feet of retail space; 90 units of affordable housing, and 28 town homes.

Super developer JBG will be in charge of the construction and the projects architect is Cooper Carey whose initial designs look very very cool! Check out how the iconic diamond facade from the old car dealership (pictured below) is preserved on the corner of the new building design. How freakin’ cool is that?

I’m with poo poo. Thumbs up! First building in Ballston, built or proposed that has made me say “Wow!”

I’m glad they are preserving that accordion-sign thingee…I was hoping they would!

Yeah it looks great! Hope the design doesn’t get lost once the thing is actually built!

It will be amazing to have something a person from the area 20 years ago will still recognize in the next 20 years.
