1725 K Street Construction

19 03 2008

The demolition down at 1725 K street is progressing nicely considering how precarious it is to bring an entire building down in the middle of a bustling city directly adjacent to other buildings.

Right now it looks like Godzilla took a big bite out of the corner of the building…

Or maybe it was just a big PAC!

This building and the one next door at 1000 Connecticut will be replaced by 395,000 sqft of office space at the northwest corner of Connecticut and K Street. So soon enough there will be even more space for all those lobbyists and special interests!

Can you imagine what it would be like to have your office in the building right next door? It must look like the crane is about to come crashing through the window all day long! Scary![Photo: Daniel Macy]

I was wondering since almost every building going up in DC have these massive glass walls and they look great…on paper. But what are they really going to look like when the interiors are cluttered with office furniture and window treatments are installed. My office building has rather large windows and the clutter within makes the whole building look shabby.

Yeah I prefer the glass walls that are so shinny you can’t really see into them!

Also at least from street level you can only see the ceiling each floor, so it doesn’t look so messy.

The building looks handsome, but a little bland for such a prominent location. The CBD begs for more interesting architecture

[…the buildings next door are being demolished, and will eventually become a glass façade building. (see this article for the story on the demolition and a rendering of the new building.) i’m pretty excited to see the transformation . . . ]

I agree with E. Why can’t we be more critical of our architecture?

Hi. I wondered if you had any updates on the construction site at 1725 K Street? I work near there (used to work in the building) and since the completion of the demolition I haven’t seen any sign of construction. Other buildings in the area have been demolished later and construction has already begun on those projects (i.e., the one at 17th and I where Riggs Bank used to be).
