Robots at The Camden Grand Parc
3 04 2008
The Camden Grand Parc apartments is the closest apartment building to the White House, which is more than enough of a reason to call the building home for most people.
However for us, the thing that makes this building truly amazing is the robotic parking garage… that’s right, they got robots!
The Camden Grand Parc has a fully automated, 74-space robotic carport. Residents just drive their cars into a small single space garage, and then the robots whisk it away to an underground vault that stores the cars arranged like a shoe rack. The cars are stacked in columns four-high along two walls. How cool is that?
At the Camden they don’t have to park themselves, so how close are we to not even having to drive ourselves? The photo above is of the winning robotic car built by Carnegie Mellon University for the DARPA Urban Challenge, the thing drove itself through a city without any human intervention, so maybe we will be living like George Jetson sooner than we think! We are still waiting on the Rosie Maid Robot though, and the Roomba doesn’t count!
You must checkout some pictures of the garage setup after the jump…
Of course, as is the problem with getting any type of robot for your self, they are damn expensive. They are built by the folks at SpaceSaver Parking and can set up any variety of options, but the mackdaddy is the Fully Automated setup that the Camden has. Well we can dream!
