Union Place Got a Foundation
10 04 2008
That’s right, just North of the H street corridor, the residential/retail complex Union Place at 2nd and K Street has now got itself a foundation to grown on!
When complete, the development will have 700 residential units, 78 of which are affordable housing. There will also be a half acre central “green” plaza that will be open to the public, which sounds very cool.
The first phase of the complex is going to be called the Loree Grand, named after the long time Northeast resident Mrs. Loree Murray who is a well know community leader and activist. The community has been very involved in all stages of this project, and as a results, the design has a bunch of street facing retail as well as residential units with street facing entrances, giving it a row house neighborhood feel, despite the 10 story height.
Follow the jump for a rendering of what the first phase will look like…

I really like that they picked a name other than the address of the building like so many developers tend to do these days.
You can’t overlook the fact that the building has an interesting meaningful name to the community, and that the community worked closely with the developer.
