Dr Dremos Apartments!!!

11 04 2008

We were very sad to see Dr. Dremos close this past year. The dive bar was one of the few remaining authentic originals left in Arlington where you could find almost any beer your heart desired on their many taps. You know we still can’t find a new place in the area to get that incredible chocolate donut beer they had! But we won’t dwell in the past, the site will soon be home to just what the area needed… more apartments!

The project by Elm Street and designed by WDG is a mixed-use development in the Courthouse neighborhood featuring 140 upscale apartments with 36,000 square feet of ground floor retail. The project required a General Land Use Plan amendment and obviously an extensive rezoning process since there are many differences between a bar and apartments.

Early demolition work has already begun and construction is expected later this year. Because of the hillside location, the building is expected to provide views of the Washington Monument and Washington Cathedral from its rooftop pool.

Since the project name of 2000 Wilson is so unimaginative, we put forth the suggestion of Dr. Dremos Psychadelic Apartments, it’s kinda catchy isn’t it?

I like that name a lot! And it’s beter than naming the building after the other business being demolished for the site, the Taco Bell!

“The Grande Apartments at Old Taco Bell”

Well actually, it doesn’t sound that bad either!

Former Arlington resident (19:33:22) :

Arlington is pathetic. I was a lifelong resident until last year. In the rush to build these apartments (Which will largely sit vacant like many condos in the area .. . and wasn’t this originally a condo development?) Arlington has sucked the soul out of its neighborhoods like places like Dr. Dremos/the old Clarendon Little Vietnam, etc . . . The county is becoming a suburban sprawl, exactly like Tysons or whatever. . . development is stupid if it makes the area unlivable . . . or fills it with such affluence that working families can’t live there . .. only trust fund babies or puke lawyers/Lobbyists/Federal contractors . . . pathetic. . . I now live in Alexandria . . thanks for making my hometown unaffordable.
