Marriott’s Grand Plans for DC

Marriott has got some big plans for the District! In addition to the Marriott Marquis convention center headquarters slated to be built on the two-acre site along 9th Street that we have known about for a while, there are now plans for two additional hotels.
Marriott has plans for a Courtyard and a Residence Inn hotel on land it owns around Ninth and L streets NW. Currently the vacant lots just have a bunch of boarded up buildings, so this will be a marked improvement for the area. The Marriott Marquis is slated to be complete by 2012 and should begin construction late next year if all goes to plan.
As a random side note, we found a very strange presence for Marriott on Flickr. Their account doesn’t have much, but the few pictures it does have are of representatives of Marriott and the Brazilian State of Amazonas signing a partnering agreement to protect the rainforest. Very Curious!!!!
i believe there’s a courtyard hotel going up on florida and 1st in NE dc, that’s almost halfway done. that’ll be a marked improvement for that area as well.
