SW Waterfront Looking Good!

28 04 2008

Now that the demolition at the old Waterfront Mall is almost finished, we’re ready for some new buildings to rise, and now we finally know what the new development is going to look like! These renderings arrived in our inbox today and show a nice re-imagined pedestrian plaza with plenty of room for new retail and restaurants.

As you can see from the rendering, the metro exit on the left will open into the pedestrian mall, and the stop will have better accessibility because the reopening of 4th street SW. There will also be three times as much residential with an eventual 1.2 million sq-ft. So the area might have enough critical mass for the place to not be abandoned at night!

Despite the recent controversy in the area, this project is still on schedule for phase one to be complete by late 2009. Follow the jump for another rendering of an overhead view of what all the buildings will look like…

With this redevelopment, the new Arena Stage, and the plans for the property along the Potomac, we can’t wait to see how this area progresses over the next few years! [Renderings: Shalom Baranes Architects]

Wow that whole area is going to be amazing, I bet eventually the entire area between that Metro stop and the new stadium area will be developed into a retail corridor!

Yeah KD I really think that Half Street is going to be great, but what I am talking about is along M Street between the Waterfront and Navy Yard metro stations. Similar to the development infill that has happened between stations along the orange line in Arlington and the red line along Connecticut!

Very impressive site at www.halfstreet.com

But why are all the happy resident stock photos of white heterosexual couples? Well, okay, I see one pair of hands-of-color in the dining shot. But overall, ss this project slated for rural Utah or our wonderfully diverse DC?
