Who are the most powerful people in Washington DC’s commercial real estate scene? According to BisNow, the number one slot goes to the fine folks who brought baseball back to our city… the Lerners. The Peterson’s, Boston Properties, Charles E Smith, and JBG rounds out the top five.
It’s amazing that this handful of people have such power to shape the future of our city! We have to say that they aren’t doing that bad a job either… especially the baseball part!
yes but for all the power these firms have.. the one I think does the best giving back to the community is Charles E Smith. Look at all the charitable donations these guys make every year, it is staggering. Plus all the academic (and sports) buildings they have given to our local Universities.
The Lerner’s definitely have the power… thank goodness they used their powers for good and not evil!
The Lerners did not bring baseball back but the DC govt did along with MLB. There were several ownership groups in the running after the team already moved. The Lerners have been cheap ass owners so far and the jury is still way out.
Does Lerner deserve the label of good company? Lerner may have nice buildings, but they look at projects from a suburban mindset. Of course they’re starting to improve, but look at the way they insisted on using the ground floor for parking, and not retail, at Nationals Park.
