Moore in Store for Rosslyn
8 05 2008
Rosslyn has a lot of changes planed over the next few years that are going to drastically change the look and feel of the downtown area (or perhaps transform it into a downtown, depending on your opinion).
One of the biggest new planned projects is 1812 Moore Street right next to the metro station. The new office tower (pictured) being built by Monday Properties will rise approximately 470- ft. above sea level and include 11,020 sq. feet of retail at the ground level, accessible from both N. Lynn and N. Ft. Myer Streets. The building will also feature a public pedestrian walk-through lobby between the two streets which will go a long way toward making that area of Rosslyn more open and accessible.
Interestingly, in exchange for some concessions from Arlington, the developers have given the county use of the old Newseum space rent free for 10 years. The building is also one of only a handful of buildings in the country striving for LEED Platinum status. Though the design is a little glassy, it’s not so bad, and will be a defining building of the new ever changing Rosslyn Skyline!

470 ft tall? That’s going to be one tall building, sounds like it will be the tallest in the area once it is built?
it’ll be the same height as the Central Place towers
Kind of looks like an Architect had the plans on his desk from the early 90’s. Who knows, it could turn out cool. I’m all for a tall modern skyline contrasting with our low blocky skyline.
I think it looks good. But, I do think between the central place towers and this one and waterview and turnberry, it could be a bit boring. I wouldn’t mind seeing something of a different color, or perhaps with some metal on the facade kinda like the NYT Tower in NYC accept more like the initial renderings.
But apparently due to the topography, the Central Place towers and this one will all appear much taller than the twins so they will stand out for sure, I think about 100 ft taller. But remember, the buildings are 470ft. above sea level, so in actuality, they’ll be probably about 380ish.
