The New Arena Stage is Striking
28 05 2008When we posted about the new construction going on for the new Arena Stage yesterday, we got a bunch of messages asking about what the new finished building is going to look like, well ask and you shall receive… the flowing modern glass addition (pictured below) will add another performance space and a lobby that connects all the theaters. So what do you think?

W.O.W. !
that is incredible, it looks like the entire old building will be surrounded in the larger glass atrium connecting the old with the new, very nice
It sort of looks like more like a movie theater than an “Arts Theater” and the enclosed old building makes it look like Bio-Dome.
the topography of that area is changing drastically, thank goodness. it’s about time they redevelop that eyesore of a neighborhood. it has so much potential, but it’s been neglected for far too long. AND, there’s still a lot more that needs to be done. near the safeway, there’s this 80’s stained glass church that’s falling to pieces (literally), and the project housing all over the area is packed with code violations and drug activity - i see it every time i walk from the metro to the DMV. but hey, it’s a start.
i’m totally psyched that dc is even giving half a shit about getting the place cleaned up and up-to-date!

That church on M Street was demolished a few weeks ago and is supposed to be replaced with a new church and apartments.
…as well as a community center/coffee shop named after Thurgood Marshall and his wife Cecilia.
I hope the coffee shop is more than some little cart inside the building.
