Area Cranes Under Inspection
2 06 2008The D.C. Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs is planning to immediately begin inspecting all area construction sites with cranes to help calm any fears related to last Fridays tragic crane collapse in New York City.

Fortunately, unlike in NYC, all 40 of the cranes currently operating in the District are restricted by the historic building height limits and are all installed directly on the ground, so a tragedy like they had in Manhattan is thankfully unlikely. [Photo of Logan Circle Cranes: James Calder]

so if the problems they have in New York really don’t mater in a city like DC where no buildings are taller than 12 stories, isn’t sending all these inspectors out to reinspect a big waste of time and money?
