4 07 2008Who needs fireworks (which are illegal in DC by the way) when nature has been providing us with such a great show lately. Hopefully it will be clear skies for tonight’s celebration, but that wasn’t the case when Brian Tomaino snapped this great shot of lightning striking a construction crane earlier this month.

Are fireworks really illegal in DC this year? I saw some guy selling them at the Giant on Rhode Island Avenue. He had a little tent-stand and everything — wasn’t trying to be discreet about it.
Only sparklers and fountains are legal, Firecrackers or fireworks that explode are all illegal in the District.

ehm…. that’s technically true. but if you were in NE DC, you’d be like me: wondering if they’re gunshots or firecrackers.
the neighborhood kids are setting off firecrackers left and right.
i wonder how that affects the shotspotters….
