Save the Car Barns!
11 08 2008The Car Barn on the old Georgia Ave Chevrolet site in Northwest may be saved after all, judging by the press release we recieved this morning. In order to appease the preservationists who have opposed the development and avoid the entire 1909 Historic Car Barn from being landmarked, the developer Foulger-Pratt will retain and restore the front part of the car barn while demolishing the less visible back part.

However the group that is trying to preserve the Car Barn does has some precedence, considering three other similar buildings in the District have already received landmark status. We like the compromise considering it preserves the street scape and allows the neighborhood to continue to evolve.
