PriceChecker: Forest Hills

12 08 2008

Your weekly chance to take a stab at real estate appraisal. Submit your guesses in the comments and closest guess gets the PriceChecker crown for the week. This weeks PriceChecker is a self proclaimed Frank Lloyd Wright inspired design.

While we’re not sure the house is “executed in the style of Frank Lloyd Wright” as the realtor claims, it certainly is still a very nice looking house. Located close to Rock Creek Park, the 11,000 sq-ft five bedroom home has got some incredible entertainment space and is centered around a modern two story living room. The best part is the stairs connecting all four levels which remind us of an M.C. Escher drawing.

So take your best guess and we will crown a winner next Monday  afternoon, and should you need some more information to help you, follow the jump for the nice exterior shot and the Realtor speak…

This exceptional offering was designed by award-winning architect Travis L. Price III, AIA. Here, one enjoys a feeling of privacy unparalleled in any part of Washington. Executed in the traditions of Frank Lloyd Wright and designed with the most discriminating homeowner in mind, this residence offers approximately 11,000 square feet of luxurious living space in a spectacular setting. From any vantage point, the house presents a handsome exterior, without suggesting its four-stories found within. This residence comprises provide five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a study, home office, open public rooms and balconies on every level.”

4 million? Maybe they should have held out for the new administration to arrive in 5 months!

Do you know how much housing turnover there is with presidential changes- especially when it’s a change in parties?

tom - how long does that turnover last, and does it affect the smaller places too (1-2 bedroom condos)? my fiancé and i will be looking for a place in about a year.

Tom, this has little effect on the RE market. The DC area gained 250,000 new residents last year, the number of political appointees is a drop in the bucket compared to this number.

What can have a real impact on the RE market is the amount of government spending in our area, which can definitely change with a new administration.

I think Frank might have a bone to pick with this attribution. Having just visited Fallingwater, it’s hard for me to believe he would go with all that interior “whiteness” or the post supporting the hanging stairwell (top photo). Where are the cantilvers and structural cracks, for God’s sake????

But I digress. My bet is $3 mill.

Oh, and I think if anybody added to the population round here it was Homeland Security. Nothing like wartime to bulk up this metro population.
