Northwest One Construction

26 08 2008

Construction has officially begun on the Walker Jones School and Community Center in Ward 6 which is the centerpiece of the Northwest One New Communities initiative. The project is being built on the former Terrell Junior High School site along NJ Ave between L and Pierce Streets NW .

The facility co-locates a new library, community center, and athletic fields all in one location. The school will be over 100,000 sq-ft and all the buildings on the site will meet LEED certification and incorporate a green roof. The school is slated to be ready for the 2009 school year. [Credit: Grundlepuck

Wow, I thought for sure that was in ward 2, since most of Shaw is in ward 2. Ward 6 is crazy big, with a big chunk of NE, most of SE west of the river, and most of SW! Shaw should be in one ward rather than spread out into several like is is now.

More likely 2010 this wont be done on time just like every other DC project, and how big is the school supposed to be since its the really the only elementary school in the whole Gallery Place, Chinatown, Penn Quarter, NW one, Susum Corda, NOMA area

Does anyone know if there building around the Church that is beside Walker Jones and the Terrell site or is the Church moving.
