14th and W Breaks Ground
30 09 2008The dirt has started to fly along 14th street to make way for the huge new mixed use development that includes rentals above a 46,000 sq-ft YMCA. The WBJ is reporting that the apartments being built by Perseus Realty are going to be called 14W and will have 231 units. The best part of the project has to be the YMCA’s planned indoor pool. How great would it be to have an indoor pool in your building? The project is scheduled to be complete by December 2010.

I live a 1/2 block away from this project and I’m eager for it to be built. Along with the other two main projects being built along that stretch of 14th St. (the Solea and View14), 14W will help change the character of that area. Hopefully, we’ll get some good ground floor retail! I can’t wait for the YES! Organic Market, Eatonville restaurant, and (blushing) the new CVS to open next door in Union Row! Now if we could only get rid of that dreadful gas station at the corner of 14th & W St. which attracts scores of super sketchy people…
Aaron- is the Nehemiah Center project going to be stalled indefinitely? It’s a real eyesore right now…
When are they going to finally begin demolishing the old Neimaha Center strip mall? I’ve been hearing “soon” for the last 10 months.
I think the developer had trouble getting financing for the project, which was supposed to break ground several months ago. Given the current financial market, I hope the developer has secured financing by now, or else we’ll be stuck with an abandoned strip mall for awhile! The Nehemiah Center project is supposed to contain about 250 rental apartments and 20,000 sq.ft. of retail space.
