Architectural Detail: Bay Window
18 09 2008There is something about bay windows that we just love, especially when they go beyond function and become an architectural highlight. This bay window on 21st street NW is made entirely of copper and the detailed work is just incredible. By design, bay windows are made to standout, but this one makes the entire house standout.

wow! i love those copper bay windows. there are some pretty cool ones on p street, NW. i’d give my left nad for one of those houses!
What a great architectural detail for a red brick building, while not being way too big for the facade. A normal-sized bay window would be way too large, but that copper frame manages to incorporate a window that’s identical to the ones flush with the building, all while making it look much more grand.
I only hope that old copper frame lasts far enough into the future to keep the window in place for many years!
