14th and U Street: Then and Now

23 09 2008

Not much has changed over the last hundred years at the corner of 14th and U Street NW. The corner building was originally the 14th Street Savings Bank (pictured left in 1906) but now is being refurbished and is looking for a new tenant. It’s amazing the building has survived all the changes U Street has gone through over the years.

Any idea who might occupy the building? The second floor would make a great dance studio with those huge windows.

I’d love for a rockin Mexican restaurant to open there (think Lauriol-style revelry). It needs to be something that draw people in because it’s such an important corner.

It would be even better if it had a rooftop deck!

JNo, you had me for a second.

But seriously, that’s a sad possibility.
