Georgetown Library Renovations

8 10 2008

Looks like the District is taking advantage of the opportunity to redesign the layout of Georgetown’s Public Library after the tragic fire damage from April of last year and we like how it’s shaping up.

In response to community requests, the new site plan (pictured) shows the reintroduction of a terrace on the south side of the Georgetown library as part of the new design.

In addition, the plan calls for a shift of the parking area to the east so that there is a continuous green space extending from the new reading terrace all the way to Book Hill Park. This is going to look great when it’s finished!

The problem is - how long is this going to take? It’s been almost a year and a half since the fire, & the District is just looking at plans now?
Ridiculous. The whole place should’ve been rebuilt & open by now, but then the District government does not care about libraries.

This renovation is moving at the speed of light compared to what’s been happening at the intersection of 7th St, Rhode Island and R Street NW…but of course that’s in Shaw, not G’town.
