Squeezing into Temperance Court

24 10 2008

Plans are on the table for some new affordable housing on the U Street Corridor. We got this rendering by Gardner Mohr Architects in our inbox for the project by Metamorphosis Group. This development is great news for those worried that all the new high end development in this part of town is making the area unaffordable.

The project will be squeezed into the alley that is along Temperance Ave between 12th and 13th street Northwest. This block also happens to be where the strange empty stairless church is located, so it will have some interesting company. We are always surprised by how many empty lots and buildings are in such close vicinity to the U Street Metro station.

Looking at google maps, the spot where this is going to go is completely empty right now.

It’s odd where google maps places the metro stop, and ignores the entrance at Vermont and U. It should at least have ONE of the entrances correctly located!
