		<description>The problem I have with working in an open office space is what to do during those times you want to have a private conversation with a co-worker or on the phone, there is never anywhere good to go and I find people are often on their cell phones standing around in the hallways. Not very productive.</description>

In answer to your last question, no, I don't think it's overdone at all.  I actually work in an office with a more open layout like that and I like it a hell of a lot better than our old one.  This one is ever nice than ours, though - looks superb.  Our big problem is that we've got a well-above-average office in a mediocre building.</description>
