Usually the buildings we cover here on DCMetrocentric are made of concrete, steel, and glass… not gingerbread. But when we heard that the Ritz Carlton in Pentagon City had built a full life-size gingerbread house in the hotel’s lobby, we had to check it out!
The “house” is made out of 187 pounds of butter, 10 pounds of ginger, and 200 pounds of candy. Though in reality they just covered the walls of a small alcove with candy and what smelled more like graham crackers than gingerbread. Kids can apparently walk into the house to pose for a picture with the stuffed bears inside and the Ritz’s pastry chef Noree Hatheway has been running gingerbread decorating workshops on weekends.
The Ritz Carlton is located in Pentagon City at 1250 South Hayes Street, Arlington and is on the Yellow and Blue Metro lines. Call (703) 415-5000 for more details if you want to check it out, it will be open to the public through Christmas. [Photo: DCMetrocentric]
