Old Firehouse Back on Market

4 02 2009

Remember the old nuevo-Spanish firehouse on North Capitol Street that was on track to become a new restaurant? Well it looks like that isn’t going to be happening any time soon, the building is back on the market. The Bloomingdale Neighborhood Blog found the listing for the 12,000 sq-ft space at $1.5 million (over 900k above it’s last sale price).

The news comes as a surprise to us considering the owners already had the first floor zoned and permitted for a restaurant plus the majority of the exterior renovations complete. We hope someone scoops this property up fast because we can’t bare to see the building sit empty for much longer. The old Fire Station has been boarded up since it was decommissioned back in the 80s. Thanks Paul for the tip! [Photo: rockcreek]

The owners may want to consider painting the facade if they’re trying to sell it…apparently a lot of work has been doen to the building but you wouldn’t guess it at first glance. A nice paint job might convince people to take a second look. Will be an incredible building/space when finished - hope to see something go in there soon!

yeah can you imagine how grand the space on the first floor would be for a restaurant? Those ceilings must be at least 15 ft tall!

undcmt, Actually the photo is old. They have stripped off 95% of the exterior paint and it looks better now with the bare brick.

in an email on the neighborhood listserve, the restaurateur said she was still pursuing her goal to open up a place there.

so it may not be a dead deal. but a painfully slow one whatever the case.

[…] has unfortunately been empty and boarded up since the 1980s. The building has had its fair share of failed plans over the years and so with that in mind we’re excited to hear that the project was back before the ANC board […]
