Big Buddha Coming to Town

5 02 2009

The space at 455 Massachusetts Ave in Mt Vernon Triangle is about to become home to the areas largest Buddha. The franchised concept of international restaurant chain Buddha Bar (sorry their site is in French) found this larger location after searching all over town for a smaller space for a scaled down version of the restaurant.

Finding such a big spot is great news because the new two story first floor space (over 9,000 sq-ft) is large enough to build out the full scale concept, big golden Buddha and all. The “Coming Soon” sign just went up, though coming soon is most likely going to be more like 9-12 months… but for the Buddha… we can wait!

That is awesome. I tried to go to the one in NYC once, but the line was absurd.

I went to the one in Paris, which had a pretty big Buddha… probably close to the full two-stories.

Should be fun spot.

It seems somewhat demeaning to use a religion figure as a marketing ploy, especially in such a decidedly secular city. I’m surprised nobody has taken offense to this and that nobody has thought of this as tacky.

i wonder when the first Obama Bar will open.

I went to the Buddha Bar in Beirut and thought it was pretty rockin.

I wager it’ll prolly be out of my price range, but still a cool addition to the city.
