First Look: Vista on Courthouse
12 02 2009Vista on Courthouse is a self described “urban village” in the heart of Arlington with a mix of brand new condos, town homes, and duplexes. The three acre development is literally minutes from downtown and we checked out the first completed townhouse units ready for delivery. The units are definitely big, with up to 3,300 sq-ft of space over four floors so if you have an aversion to stairs, this might not be the place for you.

It remains to be seen how much people will pay for the location combined with the relatively large unit size, but the developer is counting on quite a bit, with units listed for as much as $1.22 million. Something we found strange was that to get to your “private” two car garage, you have to drive through two sets of garage doors before you reach the inner sanctum. Also strangely in the units floor plans, each of the walk in closets on the top floors have a full window and enough space to practically live in. So what do you think about this style of town house?
The “closet with a view” and a fireplace that freaks us out… right after the jump…
That’s right, not one but two of the units closets have full windows. In other cities this could be billed as an efficiency!

Is it just us or do fireplaces without mantles just look really strange?

Those closets look AMAZING, but it is strange they didn’t put them on the interior and give the bedrooms more windows. I guess you could make them into more of a small study or den if you wanted.
Its just you.
it’s not just you. these look great otherwise.. but it looks cheap without a mantle of some sort.
Purchased one of these and am already living in unit. The “the garage in a garage” is great because it creates room for a large partio (above the garage). Also an aesthetic thing meant to conceal multiple garage doors and provides extra security.
I’m biased though, since I shelled out a bunch of $$$ for this thing.
Took a look at a couple of the cheaper models in May. (When I say “cheap”, I am referring to the duplex models in the $600k range). To say the least, my husband and I were not impressed. The architects made poor use of interior space. The rooms are oddly sized, and generally speaking, the floor plans do not seem thoughtfully laid out. Also, there was no balcony, patio or any private outdoor space of any kind. The parking situation was terrible. No outdoor parking near your unit, let alone a private garage like the more expensive townhouses have. If you buy a duplex, you have to park at the corresponding Vista condo building. If you bring home groceries one day, the sales people suggested you drop off them off at your unit, drive to your parking spot and then walk back to the duplex. Courthouse metro isn’t that close either. All in all, I will be surprised if many of duplexes sell unless the prices are lowered.
