Washington Hilton Construction

12 02 2009

You may have noticed over the past few days that the Washington Hilton along Connecticut Avenue has a new giant two story plywood wall. It’s not to keep out intruders though, it’s because construction is finally underway for the complete redesign of the iconic hotel’s meeting and conference facilities. The development includes a reconfiguration  with a new lobby and even space for a new restaurant.

The work is part of a much larger effort to bring an additional 160 plus condo units to the property which are being designed by Beyer Blinder Belle Architects. Apparently the design matches the current hotel building, which isn’t necessarily a good thing (but we will reserve judgement until we see the finished product).

Are the residential units going to be part of the hotel?
