Rosslyn’s New Skyline Model
18 02 2009Been wondering how Rosslyn’s new skyline is going to look once all the big new projects like Moore Street and Rosslyn Central Place are finished? Well the folks at ArchiBim sent us some nice renderings pictures of a model they built for JBG that include over 120 buildings in color coded massing and full detail plus complete street infrastructure and landscaping including the Potomac River shoreline.

Nice looking right? Rosslyn is really going to have a distinct skyline. Another close up from a different angle after the jump…

What’s the difference between the orange and the blue colors? Is it office versus residential? I notice the River Place apartments are Orange.
Residential vs Office seems right. From what I remember anyway.
Are they digital renders or photos of a physical model? You can see what looks like a reflection off of a table in the background of the first shot and out-of-focus bookshelves in the background of the second shot. If they were renders, you’d think ArchiBIM would have put a horizon and sky in the background. Either way, very nice!
Hopefully they can get financing for these great projects! So far, it’s all quiet on the western front.
I thought there was a rule in NoVa that all high-rise buildings must resemble late 20th century electric shavers.
These are definitely photos of a physical model, not renderings. Looks like they blurred the background in Photoshop to keep the focus on the model itself.
Yeah the pictures are of a model that ArchiBIM built for JBG here is a photo of the entire model:

It’s 10 feet by 10 feet.
It doesn’t look so nice if you are on the Mall in DC, looking west towards the Lincoln Memorial and the Potomac, and you see a jumble of office buildings hovering in the background.
Although I like the apparent walkability, I don’t like how the pedestrian landscape is elevated above the ground. Seems as if it intends to shut off the general public from the space, a la downtown LA.
