Horses Under 395?

25 02 2009

That’s right… under one of the I-395 overpasses someone is apparently keeping horses. We know it looks like a mirage of a unicorn, but that’s a real live horse! The property is right along New Jersey Avenue in case you’re interested in checking it out. Anyone know what these horses are used for?

These horses are used for carriage rides around the Capitol. You can usually see them during the summer and Christmas season (afternoon/evening). They are also in parades. Other than that I don’t know.

I believe these are the horses used by the Capital police force.

I think that these horses belong to the Charley Horse Carriage Company which operates tours around the city.

I lived near there in the 90’s…they have been there for a long time. The horses are indeed owned by a Carriage company.

Its should be shut down there is not enough room for the horses and its not a healthy environment with all of the pollution from the interstate and the Capitol Hill Coal burning plant. Hopefull someday they will go ahead with the plans to demolish 395 that will solve many problems.

It’s my photo - if you read the comments, you’ll see (as someone else pointed out) that they’re for the Carriage company.

When did DC Metrocentric start channeling Prince of Petworth?

Under I-395, near the Capitol Power Plant, and adjacent the portal of CSX’s 100-year-old freight rail tunnel. That’s quite a pollution nexus! I took a picture of it a few months ago. You can see the horse on the right.

Ugh. This is NO PLACE for a horse. These people kept their horses here years ago, got shut down, and now it looks like they are back. Problem is: where would they take them next?
