Linked: Around Town
28 02 2009Le Droit Park - Local fixer upper featured on HGTV’s curb appeal. It’s no “This Old House” but it’s cool to see a local house rebuilt. Why don’t more people do this? [Bloomingdale]
U Street - The retail around the major intersections along U street are pretty blah for the most part. However with projects like the boutique hotel going in at 1300 U Street (pictured left) and the new Utopia project at 14th and U, all that may be changing. [14th & You]
Penn Quarter - New office planed for 10th and G Street (pictured right) is having trouble securing a tenant and the project has been put on hold. [PQLiving]

What is it with DC Metrocentric trying to erase Downtown and expand Penn Quarter? This site is in the heart of Downtown and on the edge of Gallery Place. Penn Quarter is south of E Street and east of 9th.
That site is right next to the MLK library which is definitely part of the Penn Quarter… next you’re going to tell us Verizon Center isn’t in Penn Quarter?
How can something be “on the edge” of one area and “in the heart” of another without the two areas overlapping?
The ML King Library is at Gallery Place! The Gallery in Gallery Place is the American Portrait Gallery of the Smithsonian, right across the street! “Penn Quarter” was a new name created for the evolving neighborhood centered on the Market Square complex and Naval Memorial on Pennsylvania Avenue at 8th Street NW and the revitalized 7th Street Corridor from Pa. Avenue north to Gallery Place. Penn Quarter is a vital section of Downtown Washington, but it is not the entire downtown area!
p.s. and the Verizon Center is at Gallery Place, adjacent to Chinatown to the north and Penn Quarter to the south.
