The Story of T Street Lofts

12 06 2009

File this one under in the “what could have been” folder. The historic Taylor building has seen its share of plans over the years, including this one from back in 2007 for the T Street Flats. The project would have utilized the historic 3 story building, which sold cars back starting all the way back in the 1920s, and would have included a modern addition designed by Sorg and Associates.

The developer even got so far as to have a banner on the building for the units, but the housing market winds shifted and the project was canceled. We did like the design though and how the modern addition refers to the old through the use of windowpanes. The building is now on the market from Blake Dickson and is slated to become a retail furniture store.

I believe this is the building that the great furniture company - Room and Board - has bought and will become one of their stores in 2010. See the Washington Business Journal

I really like this rendering. It’s going to be Room and Board. Not such a bad compromise IMHO. They’re a good company.
