Waterfront Station Progress

24 06 2009

We checked in on the progress of the new Waterfront Station project in SW and it looks like a lot has been going on since they topped out in May. As you can see the full exterior is up along with most of the windows. Something that we didn’t notice in the original Shalom Baranes renderings, but that we think is looking pretty good, is the cantilevered overhang on the West side of the closest building. Nice right?

Nice, but this is really a very simplified design. There are only two modules on the facades, copied identically on both buildings. This is the cheapeast way to put up a building. There is no diversification along the facades. Just a cheap and easy way to go with little interest.

That’s not a cantilever at the closest building. The retail storefront has not yet been installed yet, but you can see the slab and columns at the base of the tower where the storefront will be located.

It is an improvement from what was there before, but I’m not seeing anything really that special… yet, I guess I will wait till it is finished.
