North Capitol St’s Dunbar Place
1 07 2009Been wondering what the corner of North Capitol Street and Hanover Place NW is going to look like? The five story Dunbar Place designed by PNG Architects replaces six razed row houses and is certainly one of the smaller residential projects in NoMa. We think the alternating colors and tempering of the top floor roof makes the scale more approachable considering the size of the surrounding properties.

The developer still plans to have the project done by the end of the year.

I don’t see how it can be completed by years end. They are just finishing up the demolition of the previous buildings
Very nice. Too bad the neighborhood seems to always have dozens of people standing and sitting around everywhere. (Or passed out on that stoop along Florida Avenue.) Is there a drug den right there or something? I occasionally take the 90 bus, and more often than not I see a person passed out on a stoop at the intersection of Florida and No. Capitol.
Do the people who come up with these renderings ever visit the areas, what happen to the underpass in the picture it would be visible at that spot.
Are they really going to use red bricks on the top portion and tan bricks on the bottom street level, I think that looks so tacky in real life!
of course, the beautiful old rowhouses that were on the site and that were torn down were perfectly serviceable (if not moreso) and could have been converted into apartments. tearing down good buildings to simply replace them with something similar sure as hell isn’t green, and isn’t smart thinking for the city. this will be a big “meh” mistake we can all point to in the future.
