Inside New Institute of Peace

10 07 2009

The new Moshe Safdie designed Institute of Peace continues to rise at 23rd and Constitution Ave and now the exterior is starting to go up. The building is in a prime location right on the National Mall with views of the Potomac, hopefully it will fit in.

It’s really hard to tell from the design renderings how the glass and concrete building is going to look when it’s finished, so these photos will have to tide us over for a few more months until the exterior is finished up.  Update: The photo’s have been removed and we are waiting for their approval.

I think this might look pretty cool. Take away the wings and it is kind of a typical DC modern building, but we got the wings so I am not complaining.

I’m guessing the roof is supposed to resemble a pair of doves?

The shapes are “inspired” by doves, but they aren’t such clear facsimiles. Yeah, it’s not the best concept, but the roof system is actually white glass. The structural system is quite a technical achievement.
