Abdo’s Arbor Place NE

12 08 2009

The folks at Abdo Development recently went before the Zoning Commission to present some shinny new digital watercolors of their vision of Arbor Place. The proposed 16-acre development on New York Ave, NE would consist of 1.7 M sq-ft of mixed-use, including 1,400 residential units, 7,000 sq. ft. of retail and 2.7 acres of open courtyards and plazas.

The project is named after the nearby arboretum and the architect of record is Maurice Walters and Torti Gallas & Partners. While this isn’t something we expect to see built this year, they are clearly getting things in place so when the market picks back up they will be ready to go.

A few more renderings of the plaza and courtyard after the jump…

Plaza has a fabulous view of the parking garage… Is that garage new or existing?

Thumbs down! I always chuckle at the amount of people in these renderings. Packed! Crowded! Busy!

Considering that right now the property is just a bunch of abandoned lots and junk yards, this would be a HUGE improvement

I think that garage is already there? Not positive though

Are you guys kidding? The design is beautiful. Torti Gallas always does great work.

I agree with Rick. I was surprised by all the poo-poo-ing. Where exactly on NY Ave is this?

Glenn is right – why design a plaza with a parking garage fronting on it?! That’s really bad design.

[...] Despite some activity last summer, Abdo Development’s Arbor Place is officially dead in the water! The proposed 16-acre development on New York Ave, NE would have consisted of over 1.7 million sq-ft of mixed-use. Apparently the main issue was getting the financing for such a large project lined up and after trying for almost a full year, the developer is moving on to other projects. [...]
