Extreme Home Makeover in Town
17 08 2009The folks behind the hit(?) ABC show Extreme Makeover Home Edition are coming to town. This week the producers of the home make over show will be choosing a deserving family and home in D.C. as well as a community center in suburban Maryland to be completely redone by the end of the month!

We have always wondered how this show is able to pull together a complete home in only a week, so now we will get to see a first hand view. Despite the filming and construction being only a week, the makeover has been months in the planning and apparently the D.C. Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs has helped by expediting permits. We will keep you posted on the shows progress, as well as Ty Pennington spotting.

Great news! This makes me wonder how the neighbors will feel that “Neighbor X” down he block gets a great new house for free, while his house, and the rest of the neighborhood is still … um… shite.
I love this show! I am going to be one of those people who stands behind the barrier and screams “Move That Bus”
Most of the homes they design and build are out of scale and proportion for the neighborhoods they are in. I can hear the producers now…”well according to our twitter followers, we need to provide bigger houses, more bedrooms and bathrooms, more flat-screen TV’s, more granite counter tops…” Please stop this madness…it’s the wrong direction for the building industry.
This show is an occasional guilty pleasure.
Yes its sappy, and I’ve actually cried along with it.
I hope they realize that the majority of people in DC don’t want or need gigantic houses. If we wanted giant McMansions we’d live in the suburbs.
@ Roy
I dont know about the dont want a gigantic house; most would want one if they didnt have to pay for it and the upkeep.
meant to say that
I dont know about that, most people would like a gigantic house ( gigantic is subject to a persons opinion) most would take the house if it was offered at no cost to and were not paying for the upkeep.
Show anyone a 1,2 or 3 bedroom house then show them a 5, 6 or 7 bedroom house that are say on the same block for the same price and ask which do they want the bigger will be chosen regardless of anything.
Price is the only stopping point for people
What they need maybe different but what the want is more of anything
i don’t think it’s free. they choose homes in which folks have to contribute at least 25k. i looked into it a few years ago.
[...] Somewhere in DC – We’ve always wanted to say this…Move that bus! Extreme Makeover Home Edition comes to DC…where will they do their reno? [DC Metrocentric] [...]
I’d love to be able to volunteer my time when they come to town – does anyone know how to go about doing this?
