Half Street’s Future
1 09 2009A lot of people (including many around the DCMetrocentric office) have been a little confused about what exactly has been going on with the Half Street Development in Near Southeast. We have heard a bunch of different things on the future of the big foundation hole next to Nationals Park, but the future is starting to become a little clearer.

The WBJ put together a nice little primer on the past, present, and future of the project, but the bottom line is that unlike the Watergate property (which was also a Monument development), Half Street is owned outright with equity. As a result, though we won’t see the property developed in the immediate future, it is not in jeopardy of going back to market and having to start the development approval process from scratch under a different company.
These renderings will have to tide us over while we wait. An aerial perspective of what the street will eventual look like after the jump…

Wouldn’t it be better to let some other developer get a chance to build on this site? I bet that hole will be there another five years.
I guarantee that this street will become a success if they build it, at least from a retail perspective. Currently if some one wants to have a meal before or after a game they leave the area. If people are walking back to their cars and the metro past a lively street filled with shopping and food options they would stay longer. Let some other company who is more solvant build this area up!
how many days per year does the stadium draw crowds?
