Shalom Baranes Design Delayed

30 09 2009

Again… the four story wrap-around development designed by Shalom Baranes Architects preserves the Old Friendship Baptist Church in SW, with plans for condos and office space. Unfortunately the project hasn’t been built yet and now the three year old approved PUD has expired. It remains to be seen whether the PUD will be renewed or everyone will have to go back to the drawing board. We always thought the condo was hugging the church a little too tight anyways.

Another excuisitly tailored Shalom addition seamlessly blending the old and the new. The classic yet avantguard structural sorcery whereby the average passerby wonders how the heck the thing stands. The timeless glass curtain wall made possible by thousands of engineers working tirelessly to give glass all the properties of brick yet keeping the inimitable fishbowl properties everyone in their homes.
Well done.

Well said Thayer-D, I would have just said it’s ugly and cheap looking

I guess it’s all because his arch school professors didn’t teach him right

Agreed with all of the above. The Shalom buildings at Waterfront Station in Southwest are one trick ponies, too. Nothing new there, just a couple of simple modules on the facades. The cheapest way to build. Let’s hope they get someone else to design the next two phases there.
