Low Office Vacancies in DC
8 10 2009Apparently even with all the empty new speculative office buildings built over the last few years, DC still has the second lowest office vacancy rate in the country! According to numbers just released by real estate research firm Reis Inc we are right behind Birmingham, Alabama at 10.9%, but for comparison to a real market (no offense Birmingham) New York’s rate is at 11.4% and Nationwide it’s an astounding 16.5%!

Maybe height limits and smaller buildings make sense economically!
yeah, then you just end up buying up half the city for your own purposes like GW. ugh. can’t stand the fact that i pay taxes for the roads/sidewalks/etc/ that GW students screw up.
just give them a giant skyscraper pointing UNDERGROUND UNTIL THE MIDDLE OF THE EARTH and i’ll stop complaining.
until then, i hate that my taxes go to a university that is buying a big chunk of the city and forcing locals like me to pay taxes to make their students’ walkways safe.
don’t even get me started. buy a real campus or gtfo!
DoublePoo:
Nice rant, what this has to do with this item I have no idea, but…
A. Georgetown U. has taken over public streets and areas for its law school near Capitol Hill.
B. GW has been in DC since 1821 and Foggy Bottom since 1912. When did you move in? By the way, earlier campus plans approved by the National Capital Planning Commission for GW called for a much larger campus area in Foggy Bottom/West End - the university’s land area has actually been consolidated since the mid 20th-C.
do you live in virginia, by chance? i’ve been in dc for over a decade - since ‘95. not that long, but still. ask any resident of froggy bottom (if there are any left) how they feel about developments.
the georgetown argument is moot. it was it’s own little “villa” if you will. i know. i used to own a home there.
anyway, froggy bottom is a pain in the arse. if you lived here, you would know.
I’m a resident of Foggy Bottom and love it. You should worry about your own neighborhood. But you are always welcome in mine!
I lived in Foggy Bottom for 7 years and I go back to visit the campus and neighborhood often. I think it is a great area and getting better all the time.
