Against the Convention Hotel?
2 11 2009Last week marked the beginning of remarks in the legal case against building the new convention center hotel (pictured below). The DC Superior Court is hearing claims that DC chose Marriott in violation of contracting rules and is offering a sweetheart deal, complete with over $206 million in public funds, that others should have had a chance on.

The WBJ, who was in attendance, is reporting that the arguments against the Marriott development were not well received by the presiding judge. They went so far as to say that the judge “looked as though someone had served her a plate of moldy cheese.” We are on the same boat, this seems like another case that could only end up hurting the public by delaying this project which is support to start construction this month. We will be sure to keep you up to date on the city’s motion to dismiss. What do you think, is there a valid point here?

Just people crying over missing out, they need to build this thing ASAP before any more groups move their yearly conventions out to National Harbor!
Seems to me as though the WBJ article was saying the opposite - that the judge was unimpressed by DC’s defense of the deal. Either way, I hope she dismisses JBG’s suit - this thing needs to be built already. Does anyone have any idea when she might pen a decision? Is there a time limit? Has an injunction against starting construction been issued?
I don’t think the financial backers are going to let the hotel construction move forward until this dispute has concluded.
I hope the judge throws it out quickly. This hotel needs to be built, and every day of delay hurts the Convention Center, neighborhood businesses, and Shaw/Mt Vernon Square.
I mean, call me crazy, but the only thing I care about is whether or not whatever gets built there is going to have a bikeshare kiosk.
Agree with DCDave.
The blog blurb reverses what the article says.
[…] It sounds like the new convention center hotel isn’t going to be happening any time soon, a judge has given JBG the go ahead to proceed with its suit to block construction of the Marriott hotel complex next to the new convention center. […]
this blows! they need to move on it!
