Abdo Comes to Brookland

13 11 2009

The Districts Zoning Commission has finally given the go ahead for the long awaited mix of retail, restaurants, and residential across from Catholic University in Brookland. This is an exciting and massive project that has the potential to transform the neighborhood.

The project will be built on property from Catholic University across from the Brookland Metro Station. Eventual there will be 83k sq-ft of retail and around 800 housing units, with studio space for local artists to live work and sell their art. The idea is to infuse a little quirkiness to the new development, sounds like a good idea to us! [Rendering: Abdo Development]

Very industrial looking, are there warehouses in this area that the architect is trying to fit in with?

According to DC Mud,

In addition to the ground floor work spaces, the nearby Arts Flex building was designed to reflect an “old warehouse style,” given its proximity to the railroad tracks.

I’m not sure that’s a great reason, but the alley looks pretty cool.
