Empty Space Gets Ghana

1 02 2010

In a space that we have talked about extensively in the past as everything from a potential bar to a performance venue, the owners have finally settled on a West African restaurant. The Ghana Cafe has opened at 1336 14th Street… But don’t worry, all that performance space in the back won’t go to waste, they plan to have DJ nights!

What do you think… is this a good use of the space?

Great addition! There wasn’t exactly a ton of restaurants serving food from Ghana in the neighborhood so it is nice to have some more variety… no one needed another trendy bar.

I’m thrilled that Ghana Cafe lives again, after having left its old Adams-Morgan address… and it also means I can go there without having to deal with the headache of Adams-Morgan!

Actually, judging by the crowds at the “trendy bars” that’s exactly what we need.

I am not against this business, but I wish someone with the means to fix up the building– power wash the facade and put in a real sign– had moved into the space.

Side note, that bus stop is hardly ever used (I’m sure 1 of the 3 guys who uses it will comment and say I’m an idiot who doesn’t know what he’s talking about). It takes up a ton of valuable sidewalk space and means that there will never be outside seating in front of this building.
