FloorPlanapalooza: Mass Ave
2 02 2010The Beaux Arts building at 2339 Massachusetts Ave NW is an imposing structure and the units on the inside live up to the exteriors grand looks. Each unit in the building takes up the entire floor, and floor three just happens to be on the market.
Of course there are five bedrooms in this thing, but what really stands out to us is the triangle shaped “Music Room Conservatory” and the working fireplaces.
We must say that it is a little strange that guests would have to walk all the way to the end of the hall to use a bathroom without going through a bedroom… and personally we would knock out the walls from the living room all the way over to the library, but this unit is huge and you could do almost anything you wanted. What do you think?
As always, click on the floor plan for a larger view.

What is with the butlers pantry? I never understood what exactly they are used for, also where is the washer and dryer?
I think the butler’s pantry was where the food was staged before being brought out. The butler was the server, not the cook, backs in da day.
That apartment looks awesome. I would particularly enjoy filling up the library. And having a Steinway in the conservatory/music room.
I also like how bedrooms 4 and 5 are so clearly intended for the servants. I doubt anyone would use this apartment like that these days, but it’s lovely to see history in the fabric of a building.
Right off the bat, I’d turn the butler’s pantry into a powder room (already has plumbing).
Library, Bdrm 2 and sitting rm/study combine to become massive Master bedroom with fireplace.
Current Master, Bedrms 3 and 4 remain bedrooms and Bedrm 5 becomes cozy little study/home office.
Kitchen and breakfast room combine to become one room (nice big eat-in kitchen.)
Finally, the walls between the liv rm/music rm/dining rm get knocked way back (not removed) for a more open flow between all three spaces.
As soon as I win the lottery, I’ll scedule the movers and contractors!
