Gales School Stands Unchanged
8 02 2010Another year goes by without any progress on the old Gales School property along Massachusetts Ave NW. Only the facade remains of the historic building which has had all sorts of ideas thrown around for its use, from a charter school to more recently a homeless shelter.

We say turn it into a library or cultural center. What are your ideas for the building? [Photo: M.V. Jantzen]

It would be great if Georgetown Law would scoop it up for a nice meeting or conference room with offices upstairs. Right now the law school hosts events on the main campus (far away), in the basement outside the auditorium (grungy and dark), or outside the gym (noisy and disruptive).
It could be a nice alternative to hotel banquet and meeting spaces and might bring more events to the campus.

This is demolition by neglect. Where’s the Historic Preservation people when you need them!
They actually put a new roof on it so at least the insides aren’t getting any worse. The preservation law isn’t as strong as you think, Thayer, and the powers that be want it that way.
I know crin. It’s more a way of advocating that they be stronger. What’s the point of having the laws if they are disregarded.
think about how it fits in to the social fabric of the area.
a lot to ask, i know. but think…..
think about $ per square footage, and demand.
think rationally.
think.
it’s clear that it should be a multi-tiered starbucks!

This is really thinking outside the box, but the Gales SCHOOL could be renovated and opened as… a school.
